During the Covid pandemic lockdowns of 2020 I purchased whats called an EWI, which stands for "electronic wind instrument" and is basically an item to control synthesizers that has the basic setup of a woodwind instrument instead of a piano keyboard. I also added to my already growing collection of synths. I live and create in an apartment and over the last few years my sax playing had been getting neglected and the EWI has really helped to keep the ol chops up. It opened up a whole can of new possibilities, too.

Ben Rew gave me a copy of Logic Pro X recording software to help enable the use of midi in my studio, since the ProTools software I had been using forever (and still do) is not so friendly for midi. Anyway, for years I've wanted to have synths and midi available to use with my regular music, but I've also wanted to make some pure electronic music and I am now able to do so.

So, the first two songs were from a big batch of song ideas that I haphazardly created within Logic Pro X in a sort of jazzy EDM mellow electronica vibe, just learning the software and its midi functions. It was sorta making fun of synths and learning stuff at the same time. All of it was basically garbage to me but these two I kinda liked, so I finished them.

Another thing that Ben and I messed with while learning Logic Pro X was a few cover tunes. Normally I'm not too much into doing covers but it was a good enough way to learn the software. This one turned out alright and it sorta fit the vibe of this EP, so why not include it? I am certainly a fan of the mighty KRAFTWERK.

The third and fourth songs, and the last song, rather than being created within computer software, were actually setup and performed live and simply recorded with the computer, using analog synthesizers and sequencers as the primary layer, and then adding live v-drums, EWI leads and kaoss pad noise manipulations on top. The last song adds in guitar and bass guitar chuggs and leads as well. This was a new and really fun writing style to me which I've been calling Glitch Music and speaks to my EDM, Industrial, abstract electronica and free jazz influences. So, there oughta be more music using this method on the way, I'm sure.
